Full title: “Effects of the frequency of forage allocation and harvest maturity of whole-crop oat forage on dry matter intake and ruminal fermentation for beef heifers”

Beef producers can reduce the costs associated with winter feeding by approximately 50% with adoption of extensive winter feeding strategies. This study examines the effect of feeding frequency of whole-crop oat forage and maturity stage on feed intake and ruminal fermentation for beef heifers. While feed intake was not affected by harvest maturity or feeding frequency, rumen pH and short chain fatty acids content was impacted by low feeding frequency.
