A study that demonstrates the importance of feeding management for lactating dairy cows: feeding twice per day was associated with an average increase of 1.42 kg of DMI, 2.0 kg of milk yield, and less feed sorting behavior (>19 mm particles), as compared to once a day feeding. Feed sorting and feed bunk space influence milk production and quality. Ensuring proper feed bunk access and management, such as increased feeding frequency and optimal feed bunk space, can improve DMI and promote more balanced nutrient intake and greater milk yield.
