Not all bacteria are free-floating in the rumen. The bacteria attached to rumen epithelium are involved in oxygen scavenging, tissue recycling and urea digestion. This research studies the development of ruminal epithelial bacteria populations and shows how they might participate in the anatomic and functional development of the rumen.
