Associations of feeding behavior and milk production in dairy cows
Published on 01/04/2018
A new multi-study analysis on the relationship between feeding behavior and lactating dairy cow performance shows that milk yield is increased by 0.02 kg per minute of rumination and confirms that milk fat is related to rumination time. This analysis shows that milk yield and component yield may be improved in situations where cows are able to increase the time spent feeding, have more frequent meals, and spend more time ruminating, with an optimum between 400 and 500min/day.
